What is Mercedes-AMG®?

In 1967, former Mercedes-Benz employees and engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher founded AMG®, an independent engineering firm, in Burgstall, Germany. AMG® was initially focused on designing and testing racing engines, but the business soon moved into creating custom performance cars, using standard Mercedes-Benz vehicles as the base models on which to build. AMG® and Mercedes-Benz worked together on racing cars in the 1970s, and eventually AMG® became an official partner. In 1990, after AMG® signed an agreement with the Mercedes-Benz Group (formerly known as Daimler-Benz), AMG® upgrades and vehicles began to be sold in Mercedes-Benz showrooms. Today, Mercedes-AMG® models are the high-performance siblings of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, sold to those driving enthusiasts who want the elegance and luxury of a Mercedes-Benz with the ferocious power of an AMG® powertrain under the hood.
